Eduardo T. Basualdo + Nina Canell + Sofia Hultén na Luisa Strina, São Paulo
A Galeria Luisa Strina tem o prazer de apresentar sua nova série de exposições. A sala principal e o espaço dedicado aos projetos estarão ocupados por 3 jovens artistas estrangeiros que mostram, pela primeira vez em uma galeria brasileira.
A abertura acontece dia 13 de agosto às 19h. A exposição fica em cartaz de 14 de agosto a 14 de setembro de 2013.

A Sala principal recebe a primeira exposição individual do argentino Eduardo T. Basualdo.
Influenciado pelas meditações poéticas e sintéticas de Jorge Macchi, Basualdo lança seu próprio olhar, prismático e psicologicamente carregado sobre os objetos cotidianos, que atuam como correlativos visuais para a sempre oscilante e hermética natureza da mente.
Testigo/Testemunha é uma instalação arquitetônica pensada especificamente para o espaço da Galeria, um conjunto de 6 trabalhos inspirados em ritos de passagem e cerimônias de transição, onde o iniciado/espectador é conduzido através de diferentes testes para abandonar um estado original e assumir uma nova categoria.
A Fuga, que ocupa o fundo da sala principal, é uma construção de paredes de gesso e espelhos enormes que não refletem o que se apresenta diante deles, devido à inclinação de seus painéis que, num angulo convexo, cria um ponto cego. A peça em si é uma rachadura na realidade que nos permite ver (por um momento, a partir de um ângulo) o mundo sem a nossa presença. Para ser e não ser ao mesmo tempo.

Estudante de escultura na Inglaterra no início dos anos 90, Sofia Hultén foi influenciada pela idéia de escultura como uma mídia expansível e de grande potencial performático.
Para a Galeria Luisa Strina, Sofia preparou uma série de 4 trabalhos, entre vídeos e esculturas. Mais interessada em mudar o estado de existência do material ready-made com o qual trabalha do quê necessariamente criar objetos novos, Hultén incorpora em seu trabalho o tempo como elemento inteligível em vídeos, fotografias e esculturas que captam os ciclos de vida desses objetos. O importante em sua prática não é chegar ao destino final - o objeto de arte - através do caminho mais curto, mas dar a volta em torno do labirinto de possibilidades que é para a artista, um processo de imprevisibilidade.

As instalações de Nina Canell freqüentemente reúnem objetos que interagem uns com os outros através de arranjos modestos. Detritos elétricos, fios e gás neon estabelecem uniões escultóricas quase performáticas com materiais naturais, como água, madeira ou pedras. Sua busca pela escultura existe em algum lugar entre o material e o imaterial, formando e questionando as relações condutivas entre os objetos sólidos e eventos mentais.
Canell preparou para a Galeria Luisa Strina 5 obras inéditas que utilizam materiais diversos como vidro, neon, bronze e madeira.

Galeria Luisa Strina is pleased to present its new series of exhibitions. The main room and the space dedicated to projects will be occupied by three young foreign artists who are showing for the first time in a Brazilian gallery.
The opening will take place on August 13 at 7 p.m. The exhibition will run from August 14 to September 14, 2013.

The main room is hosting the first solo show at the gallery by Argentine artist Eduardo T. Basualdo.
Influenced by Jorge Macchi’s poetic and synthetic meditations, Basualdo is casting his own prismatic and psychologically charged gaze on everyday objects, which act as visual correlatives for the constantly oscillating and hermetic nature of the mind.
Testigo [Witness] is an architectural installation specifically conceived for the space of the gallery, a set of six artworks inspired by rites of passage and ceremonies of transition, where the initiate/spectator is led through different tests to abandon an original state and to assume a new category.
A Fuga [The Escape], which occupies the back of the main room, is a construction of plaster walls and huge mirrors that do not reflect what is in front of them, due to the inclination of their panels at a convex angle, creating a blind spot. As a whole, this piece is a gap in reality that allows us to see (for a moment, based on an angle) the world without our presence. To be and not to be at the same time.

As a student of sculpture in England in the early 1990s Sofia Hultén was influenced by the idea of sculpture as an expandable medium with a great performative potential.
For Galeria Luisa Strina, Sofia has prepared a series of four works, including videos and sculptures. More interested in changing the state of existence of the ready-made material with which she works than necessarily creating new objects, Hultén incorporates time in her work as an intelligible element in videos, photographs and sculptures that capture the lifecycle of these objects. The important thing in her practice is not to arrive at the final destination – the art object – by means of the shortest path, but rather by a winding route through the labyrinth of possibilities, which for the artist is a process of unforeseeability.

Nina Canell’s installations bring together objects that interact with each other through modest arrangements. Electrical debris, wires and neon gas establish sculptural and nearly performative links with natural materials such as water, wood or stones. Her search for sculpture exists somewhere between the material and the immaterial, forming and questioning the conductive relations between the solid objects and mental events.
For this show at Galeria Luisa Strina, Canell has prepared five new objects that use different materials such as glass, neon, bronze and wood.
