Throughout its over 50 years of existence, documenta became the largest and most important contemporary art exhibition in the international circuit. Held in Kassel (Germany) every five years, the exhibition is a space of convergence of artistic discourses and practices, presenting a vast critical panel of current tendencies.
In order to deepen the debate around its 12th edition, its artistic director Roger Buergel invited over 90 printed and electronic publications from all over the world around the documenta 12 magazines project. The project is founded on the three themes that guide the 2007 exhibition and opens space for artists, art critics and theoriticians to plunge into an exercise of reflection on how major contemporary issues are presented in different socio-cultural contexts.
Canal Contemporâneo is part of this group of publications and takes advantage of the diversity of its community to form its mosaic of participations. Besides, it aims to establish an increasing dialogue with the other members of the project in order to consolidate this collaborative network at the same time that it establishes itself as a live medium for the reflection on Brazilian contemporary art.
In this section, you find the official communication from the documenta 12 magazines to the invited publications and get to know the principles which rule the project.
